Thame Music Academy is designed to provide professional music tuition for all. The focus is for both children and adults to be able to attend after school, during the day or at weekends to be tutored in their preferred instrument either towards grades or just for fun. Our tutors can provide tuition in: Piano, Guitar, brass, strings, bass guitar, singing, drums, percussion and woodwind.

The academy covers Thame and the local area including; Haddenham, Princes Risborough, Chinnor, Long Crendon, Wheatley, Watlington, Towersey, Shabbington, Longwick, Postcombe, Ickford and all surrounding villages.

As one of the busiest gigging bands in the area, TBWNN is in a great position to introduce some of their friends from the circuit to the Acoustic Stage at the Beacon Festival - and to share them with the Crowd!  We have chosen an eclectic bunch that demonstrates a breadth of talent, ability – and age!

Whilst TBWNN’s will be entertaining you with acoustic versions of contemporary rock classics from the likes of The Stereophonics, Kings of Leon and Snow Patrol – The Unchosen plough a different furrow with a set based around acoustic versions their own material - which normally features nu-metal guitar riffs with classic rock overtones – and a brilliant stage presence.  Georgie Bird adds some glamour to proceedings - as well as the talent to write and present her own dazzling vocals as one of the most promising British Artists of 2016.  2AM Blue comprise the duo, Johnnie Littler and Jim Greenhough.  They will be mixing up a set of beautifully penned original songs - together with some exceptional cover versions of songs from artists the likes of Counting Crows and Passenger.

They love to encourage local talent (young and old!) to play as well as more established acts such as Amy’s Ghost and Maddy Prior (Steeleye Span). Run by a dedicated group of volunteers, 'GU' goes from strength to strength.

For this year’s Beacon Festival, the Goring Unplugged team bring a superb selection of acts who have performed at the event in recent times. The only difference is, they’ll be plugged in this time!

Billy Watman

Ben Corby made his first festival performance in 2015 at Buryfields in Chesham as the winner of the Buryfields Emerging Talent Competition.  Then, only ten years old, he charmed the crowd with his songs about sleepovers, nightmares, friendship and one of his favourite books.  He’s an extraordinary guitar player and also weaves his own vocal harmonies and guitar mixes into his live performances with the use of a loop pedal.  Definitely one to enjoy listening to now and watch for the future.

Barney Newman

Barney is a song writer musician from Oxfordshire and has been touring around the Midlands for 20 years in a host of different genres ranging from folk to rock but most recently has settled into his love of all things blues, specialising in his own sound of blues roots folk.

Paul and Martin

Paul and Martin first met several years ago. Realising they had similar musical tastes and an interest in playing acoustic guitar, they took the plunge to start performing together about 10 years ago, initially at open-mic nights in local pubs.

Paul and Martin have a wide song repertoire with close-harmony vocals and they both play finger-picking style guitar, although Martin sometimes also plays banjo and bouzouki.

"Original Live Urban Acoustic Material. Soulful Conscious Lyrics, with Deep Rootsy Bass Lines, Dynamic Guitar Breaks and New School Beats to bring you a contemporary sound clash of RnB, Reggae, DnB, and Break Beat Soul with an Organic Hip Hop Edge."

the unchosen

The Unchosen are an established, experienced and exciting rock band, blending fierce nu-metal guitar riffs with classic rock overtones and melodic vocal.

2am blue

A favourite at local festivals and open mic nights, 2am Blue are coming back to Beacons! Here's what they had to say about themselves:

"Unlike most double acts where one partner is funny, talented and good looking and the other is a stooge, 2amBlue break new ground with neither of them having any of these qualities. Catch them before the nurse comes!"

the vibe

The Vibe have been performing to pack out audiences at Thames First Thursday Music Club over the last 3 years. Expect great pop with a hint of rock from this fabulous foursome! Playing songs from across the last 40 years, The Vibe will not disappoint and guarantee to have you all dancing.

the band with no name

Formed in 2011, The Band With No Name are a contemporary rock outfit playing a mixture of original tracks and covers from the likes of Kings of Leon, The Stereophonics, The Black Keys, The Killers, with the odd “oldie” thrown in. The mixture of two guitars, bass, harmonica and drums produces a unique sound together with great vocals. Gigging regularly locally, in London, at festivals, pubs, clubs, parties and wedding, the band guarantee a great experience..

Isaac Grinsdale

Inspired by artists ranging from Damien Rice to Radiohead, you soon realise that Isaac’s music is difficult to place within a single genre.  Whilst his music follows  closely in the singer-songwriter tradition, his rich, often unconventional chord choices demand attention.

Isaac’s new single, Warsaw, is taken from the recently completed second album, The Spirit of ’68.  Once again, this album showcases Isaac’s remarkable multi-instrumentalist approach: he played every note of every instrument, even mixing the recording himself.  And this ambitious project has already gained him UK festival interest from Greenbelt, Farsley and Holmfirth Folk Festival, which he is due to play in 2016.

Having recently been backed by Under Wraps Management Isaac is getting geared up for a major UK tour in support of the new album, due for release in June.

‘Beautiful guitar arrangements woven into amazing songs.  Recommended!’ Jon Gomm.

Oskar and Georgie once got a written warning from the council for playing acoustic guitar and singing too late at night and disturbing the neighbours.

Now living in Thame, Oskar and Georgie have been playing their favourite Rock, Pop, Soul and Funk covers at venues in Thame, Cowley Road, Brill, Towersey and many others, even down in Cornwall.

They’ve lived in Thame since 2013, getting into the local music scene at the end of 2014 playing the local open mic nights. Highlights of 2015 include headlining the Beer Festival at The Bell in Lower Heyford, headlining the Friday Night at the Fisherman in December, and playing a full hour and a half on New Year’s Eve at The Boot in Bledlow Ridge. They have different but overlapping musical tastes, sharing a love of Fleetwood Mac, Amy Winehouse and others, incorporating into their set old classics like Stevie Wonder and brand new songs from Radio 1.

They are also getting married in Aug 2016.

The duo Waterfahl will treat you to some acoustic music in the Nordicana style. Soulful and bluesy stuff mixed with the tone of Nordic song-writing from their Danish background. You will hear deep female vocals, melodic guitar and a harmonica adding some wailing bent notes.

The duo has played at various venues and festivals across Oxfordshire since their start in 2014, and at the moment they are working on an EP.

memphis rattlesnake

Sons of Chuck Berry playing rock n roll with all the subtlety of a freight train.  Raw, ragged and never more than three feet away from a pint - Paul and Ben are the Memphis Rattlesnakes.

'Hume' are a 3 piece from Buckinghamshire, blending a landscape of Jazz , Blues and soul in a singer songwriters perspective. Clean but twangy tones, Gretsch guitars and vox amps which crafts that vintage sound. Debut E.P to be released 'Common Grounds' which has been recorded in Alex Hume's glorified shed in his garden. Influences of Amy Winehouse, Newton faulkner, Hozier

The Ha’ Pennies are a lively London based four piece serving up a satisfying mix of folk, rock and pop with a raw bluesy undertone that can sit snuggly in an intimate acoustic event or fill a room with uncapped energy.

Simon Markland
Bryn Davies

Simon has been playing music for most of his life. From the age of 5 he began learning the keyboard, then progressing to the piano. At 14 years old he decided to pick up a guitar and the rest is history! Since then he has been teaching instrumental lessons, performing gigs and regularly appearing at local open mic events.

Having played local festivals in previous years such as Towersey Festival, Beacon Festival and Music in the Park, they are experimenting with new material and a new sound, and have recently been compared to Kate Bush!

Los Dos Amigos

Imagine a Corona, an extremely dark rum, a fiery red jalapeño pepper, a large dose of Tequila and a fat dose of lime all mixed together…oh and a cactus. That’s pretty close to this hot Hispanic duo of Spanish guitars ripping out catchy melodies backed with Mexican and Spanish ritmos. Get the sunglasses on and buckle up….it’s fiesta time!!!

Los Dos Amigos is Benito "El Toro" and Bruno "DJ" Romero, two friends who met in 2005 and have been working as musicians together ever since.

A four-piece from Berkshire fusing elements of indie, folk and rock. Catchy pop melodies are blended with open tunings, electric guitars and a passionate song-writing style that accompanies an energetic on-stage performance.

ANDREW FRY supported by Ian Fewtrell-Smith

Luckily, Andrew’s parents didn’t get him bagpipes for Christmas when he was 10 (he had a soft spot for a Scottish girl in his class and thought this would impress). Instead, he was given a guitar, a cheap Russian-made acoustic from a department store, and it’s been the guitar that dominated his musical explorations ever since, albeit almost entirely a self-taught process.

His repertoires, with his duo Reviva Rush, with his newly formed and as yet unnamed duo with Ian, and as a solo artist, include a number of self-penned works and a wide variety of covers. He is drawn to ‘interesting lyrics’ – he was an early fan of Joni Mitchell and of the Pete Brown/Jack Bruce collaborations – and is attracted to musical arrangements that are less than obvious. He still claims that Ravel’s string quartet is a favourite classical piece (but, no, he doesn’t play it on the guitar!). He revels in finding a way to put across something like Nelly Furtado’s ‘I’m Like A Bird’ or Sting’s ‘Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic’ on just one guitar.

Sharon Murphy

Sharon is a singer/guitarist who moved to the UK from Ireland several years ago. After starting off in London she moved to South Oxfordshire 4 years ago and plays regularly in the pubs and festivals around Goring. She plays a mixture of rock, folk and pop covers including everything from Jewel to Coldplay to Swedish House Mafia so hopefully something for everyone.

Formed in 2015 Rush Keeper are a 4-piece Indie / pop band who have toured world-wide and who's members have played Wembley Stadium, Glastonbury and Reading Festival.

On their recent tour of America Rush Keeper were described by Jon Clifton of The Philadelphian Times as "A mesmerizing live band" and 'Ace!' by Math Priest of the band 'Dodgy' after Rush Keeper supported them on their most recent UK tour.
