The Beacon Prize 2019

We are very excited to announce The 2019 Beacon Prize for poetry.

We invite individuals and schools in the Watlington and District areas, to enter the 2019 competition for poetry .

Entry is open to writers of any experience or none.


The subject this year is “Stars”.

Poetry entries need to be up to a maximum of 40 lines. All entries submitted must be typed.

There are three age categories: -

under 12 years

12-18 years

18+ years


Submissions should be received no later than Saturday 11th May. This allows our readers and judges time to give your work the attention it deserves.


Entries should be emailed to or delivered to Watlington Library and clearly marked Beacon Prize 2019. Each entry must include your Age, Name, address and email address (Parent or Guardians for Under 16s) and should also be typed.


All entrants will be entered in to a draw automatically, with the winner receiving a pair of Beacon Festival Weekend tickets worth £90 !!!


Prizes and certificates will be awarded to each age group and there will be an additional prize for the overall winners of the poetry categories. The winning entries will be read/performed in The Literary Area over the weekend.
